Introduction
The Microsoft Remote Desktop app for iOS lets you connect to remote Windows desktops and Linux systems running xRDP. This short guide covers configuration and best practices for mobile access.
Install the App
- Open the App Store and install Microsoft Remote Desktop.
- Open the app and tap + to add a new Desktop.
Add a Desktop
- Enter the PC name or public IP (or localhost if tunneled).
- Under User Account, add credentials (or choose to be asked each time).
- Save and tap to connect.
Tips for iOS
- Rotate to landscape for a larger workspace and enable Fit to Screen options.
- Use an SSH tunnel or VPN for secure remote access rather than exposing RDP to the public internet.
- Use Bluetooth keyboard / trackpad for productivity — the app supports basic input mapping.
Troubleshooting
If the connection fails, verify network, firewall, and whether the remote PC accepts RDP connections. Check that VPN/SSH tunnels are active when used.
